Dear Members,

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who attended the Fall Conference in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I know you will all agree that it was not only a beautiful place for our conference, but an educational one from the standpoint of Civil War History. A special thanks to R.C. Bartley and Sylvia Buffington for their efforts in making the Fall Conference such a success. R.C. arranged an excellent speaker and workshop program.

We had a total of seventeen vendors demonstrating their products to our members, well done Sylvia. As usual our Secretary-Treasurer, Carol Edelen and her husband Bill, along with all of the people that helped at the registration desk did an outstanding job. Thanks for your continued dedication to the organization. It was great to have the President of the International Association for Identification, Jan Johnson attend our Fall Conference. It was a nice to rekindle old memories about our FBI days with her.

We are very fortunate to have a number of highly respected and talented Forensic specialists in our organization. On numerous occasions, these individuals volunteer their time to pass along knowledge that they have acquired over the years, to our newer members. It is nice to hear feedback from our student members about what they liked or disliked and what they would want to see at our future conferences. They are what this organization is all about. They will be the ones filling the vacancies when some of us retire in the near future. That is why it is important for our organization to continue to offer speaker and workshop programs that focus on education.

In the coming year the CBD/IAI will be putting the final touches on a new logo for patches and pins. In addition, we will be canvassing our members for volunteers to be Vendor Coordinator and Conference Planning Coordinator. If anyone is interested in these positions please let me know. Just a reminder, all persons interested must meet the approval of the CBD/IAI Board of Directors.

My wife Debby and I would like to wish all of our members a happy and safe holiday season. We look forward to seeing you at our Spring conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Sincerely yours,

Patrick R. Davis

January 2004

Dear Members,

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. It seems like the fall Conference just ended and now it is already time to address the 2004 Spring Conference. On April 16th and 17th, the conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Patriot in Williamsburg, Virginia. If you have attended our past conferences in Williamsburg, you already know that the Patriot provides an excellent facility for our metings and workshops and its location is convenient for shopping and dining. Please keep in mind that the conference is a few weeks later than usual this year. This later time frame falls during Wiliamsburg's busy season, so it was a nice gesture by the Patriot to give us such a good rate.

Sylvia Buffington and her committee have put together an excellent speaker's program, which will be of interest to all our CBD-IAI members. Debbie Leben is working diligently to put together a variety of vendors who are so important to our organization.

You will notice that in this edition of the Examiner we will be accepting applications for our newly created George H. Robinson Scholarship Fund. I have appointed Mike Grimm as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for this fund. He will be assisted by James (JJ) Johnson and Joan Vitt. We are hoping that a majority of the applications will be received electronically to avoid the mailing of documents.

We are looking at several avenues for funding this scholarship program. These include: interest gained on our share of the profits from the International meeting in Charleston, West Virginia; a portion of the increase in the membership dues that went into effect in the year 2004; also, we are accepting contributions from our members as well as any vendors that may be interested. This is one way to help out the students that will be filling the vacancies when we old timers retire.

Also in the coming year we will be looking for someone to fill the position of Vendor Coordinator. We ask that anyone interested in this position let Chairman of the Board Lyle Shaver or myself know. After we have obtained the names of all interested parties, Lyle will be in contact to let them know what will be required to aid in the selection process.

I want to thank all of the members involved in our organization for all of their efforts in making the CBD-IAI one of the most recognized and respected Divisions of the International Association for Identification.

Sincerely yours,

Patrick R. Davis

August 10, 2004

Dear Members,

I hope that all of you are having a good summer. August is upon us and before you know it the Fall Conference will be here. I am currently working with the Clarion at Ocean City and hope to have our meals, meeting and classrooms ready before I head off to St. Louis.

Speaking of St. Louis, it looks like the CBD/IAI is going to have good representation at this conference. Please look on the events board to see where the CBD/IAI Hospitality suite is located. I know that John & Jan Bowman will have everything needed to unwind after a long day of meetings and workshops.

We are still canvassing our members for volunteer(s) to be Vendor Coordinator. If anyone is interested in this position, please let me know. A brief description of the duties can be found on our web site. Just a reminder, all persons interested must meet the approval of the CBD/IAI Board of Directors.

If you are traveling to St. Louis have a safe and pleasant trip. If you are not attending, have a safe and wonderful remainder to the summer. See you in Ocean City in November.

Sincerely yours,

Patrick R. Davis

Dear Members,
Greetings! I would like to thank all of you who attended the Spring Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia. Special thanks to second Vice President Sylvia Buffington and third Vice President Debbie Leben for their tireless efforts and assistance in making the Spring Conference such a success. Sylvia arranged an excellent speakers program, which was well received by the attendees. Debbie Leben, our newest Vice President put together an outstanding group of vendors who, as you know, are a vital part of a successful conference.

We had an outstanding turnout from the Chesapeake Bay Division at the 89th IAI Educational Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. I know that well over 60 CBD members were in attendance. Three of our CBD members were elected as officers to the parent body. Vici Inlow and Ken Smith were elected to the Board of Directors and Robert Garrett was elected to the position of 4th Vice President. Congratulations to all of you! Thanks to John and Jan Bowman for hosting the hospitality suite at the International Conference, they did an excellent job.

The upcoming CBD-IAI Fall Educational Conference will be held in Ocean City, Maryland at the Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel on November 5th and 6th.We have used this hotel in the past and have always had a great time. The hotel has given us a special rate of $84.00 per night, this rate is guaranteed until October 4th, so get your reservations in early.

My term as President has passed by so quickly; I have had an enjoyable time and I want to thank all of the officers and past Presidents for their assistance.

See you in Ocean City!

Patrick R. Davis
