Greetings CBD Members and Guest,

Our first five day educational spring conference held at the Founders Inn and Spa, in Virginia Beach, Virginia is now past. Wow, what a turn out! There were certainly more attendees than expected. A special thank you to the speakers for their excellent presentations/ workshops and to Second Vice President Laura Tierney for coordinating such an outstanding educational program. I also want to thank Secretary Treasurer Carol Edelen and all CBD Officers, committee members and past presidents for their continued hard work and dedication to make our first five day conference a great success! We received an overwhelming number of positive comments on the educational program and facilities.

I want to give recognition to the attendees who paid to attend the conference from their personal funds. I know that budget cutbacks and difficult financial times make attending a conference a difficult decision, but your attendance demonstrates your dedication not only to the CBD, but to your interest in your profession, and you are to be commended.

Third Vice President/Vendor Coordinator David Morgan and Director, Jeri Eaton set the record for Exhibitor attendance. A total of 27 exhibitors vended. The CBD would not be able to provide the quality educational conferences it offers without exhibitor support too! Thanks to Director, Lori Britton and WVU students for your support in assembling our spring conference guide notebooks and to all individuals who provided support and guidance to me personally during the two year planning of this event.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to Motorola and representatives, Frank Sangiorgi, Clarence Phillips and Juan Martinez, for sponsoring the first CBD "President's Reception". The food was absolutely delicious and elegant and the presentation was breathtaking. Also, I would like to express my thanks to Foray Technologies, for sponsoring our Wine and Cheese Event and the co-sponsorship with Penn Camera Exchange, Beach Party! People will be talking about it for some time! Our fall conference is rapidly approaching and will be hosted at the Stonewall Resort, located in Roanoke, West Virginia, October 9 and 10. The resort is nestled in 1,900 acres of picturesque, rolling countryside and 82 miles of shoreline of the Stonewall Jackson Lake. I have high hopes that the fall colors will be at their peak, the weather will be exceptional, and everyone will be able to enjoy the conference as well as the beautiful surroundings.

Lastly, I would like to encourage all of you to attend our upcoming conference. The program is designed to help you deal with challenges to the forensic community and do the best you can in your job. Please check out the CBD website for the conference agenda and social events. This upcoming conference promises to be another highly educational and social program you will remember and cherish. Please be sure to share your thoughts and experiences with any of the current CBD Officers.

I am looking forward to meeting and speaking with each of you. Safe travels and see you there!

Kindest Regards,

Linda A. Hileman - President

On behalf of the Officers and Conference Planning Committee of the Chesapeake Bay Division of the International Association for Identification, it is with great pleasure the I welcome you to the 2009 Spring Educational Conference. We are especially exicted to host our first five day conference. In addition, we are pleased that the location is one of the finest conference centers and resorts in the state of Virginia. The central location of the Founders Inn and Spa allows for easy access to the oceanfront of Virginia Beach, the nightlife of downtown Norfolk, and sightseeing in historic Williamsburg.

Second Vice President / Speaker Coordinator Laura Tierney and the Officers, committee members, and past Presidents have worked diligently to coordinate an outstanding educational and social program in order to ensure that your experience is most positive, whether you attend daily training sessions or for the full five days. Along with case studies and techniques to be used in the laboratory and at the crime scene, you will learn about several of the most recent events in the field of forensic science which are sure to affect all practitioners.

The CBD would not be able to provide quality educational conferences it offers without exhibitor support. Information on a wide range of products and technologies is available in the vendor hall. Be sure to visit each booth and learn about the newest products available in the forensic field.

While education is the primary focus for the CBD conference, it is equally important to enjoy networking and meeting with old and new forensic friends. Our goal is to make this educational conference an event you will remember and cherish. Please be sure to share your thoughts and experiences with us.

I am looking forward to meeting and speaking with each of you throughout the week.

Greetings to All,

It is with great pleasure that I greet you as the 47th President of the Chesapeake Bay Division of the International Association for Identification. It is truly an honor to serve as your President.

Congratulations to Sandy McKay, on her very successful year. Sandy's Spring Conference in Morgantown set the record for the largest turnout for a CBD conference with more than 310 attendees.

Recently, I thought about my first CBD-IAI Conference. The year was 1999, Mike Grimm was the President and Ron Smith conducted a 3-day "Advanced Palm Print Symposium." The reason those two things are still fresh in my memory is because that year Mike placed great emphasis on education and Ron's seminar certainly made me analyze latent prints differently. I came away knowing that membership in the CBD is a great investment. It was clear that education and training were important, but fun, friendships and camaraderie were equally essential. The combined efforts of past Presidents, Officers and Committee Members have consistently supported and provided excellent training for all CBD members. With the combined efforts of all, we will continue to provide a venue for professional growth, while building a wide network of support.

Our upcoming Spring Conference will be our first 5-day conference. I am very excited about having 5 days of educational training located at one of Virginia's premier conference centers and luxury hotels. "The Founder's Inn and Spa" is conveniently located near the oceanfront of Virginia Beach, the nightlife of downtown Norfolk and sightseeing in historical Williamsburg.

Working together, past Presidents, Officers and Committee Members have arranged several excellent hands-on workshops and numerous lectures for both forensic professionals and students. Attendees will have the option of daily training sessions or the full 5 days of training and hospitality at reasonable costs for everyone's tightened budgets.

Indeed, the first conference I attended left a great impression on me and I hope that my term as President will have the same effect on all of our new and existing members. My personal mission for this term is to recruit new members so that they may benefit as we have through the years. I want my term as President to be fruitful and fun.

In closing, I wish to thank you again for electing me as your President. I encourage each of you to strive for excellence, stay current with your educational training, and take full advantage of what the CBD has to offer. If you are not already a member please join today and come see us this spring at the Founders Inn and Spa!

Best Wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2009!

Linda Hileman
